PC Board Design & Layout
The integrity of PC board design is critical to the success of high-speed and high-power applications. STG’s in-house
board designers work closely with our hardware engineers to ensure that the final PC board layout fully meets
performance and manufacturability requirements.
Mixed Signal Processing
An effective design adeptly handles analog and digital signals at all levels. Component placement, ground plane
design, and signal routing must all be carefully considered to maximize the performance and accuracy of signals
crossing between analog and digital domains.
High-powered circuits generate noise, which poses a particular challenge to the precise control of minute analog
signals. Our engineers have specialized expertise in designing high-speed DSP boards for these demanding
EMI, EMC and ESD Compliance
To be successful, a product must operate harmoniously within its intended environment. To ensure this occurs, STG
engineers address EMI, EMC and ESD compliance by minimizing noise and sensitivity at the source.
With careful control of line impedances and grounding, and thoughtful use of filters and clamp networks during the
board design phase, our engineers achieve robust and cost-effective solutions.
High Speed and Controlled Impedance
Many of STG’s boards employ transmission line design to ensure optimal performance of high speed circuitry. Our
present designs operate up to 500MHz, and utilize circuitry requiring low jitter clock distribution.
We also often utilize controlled dielectrics and controlled impedances on slower circuits. Examples include using low
level instrumentation to reduce EMI sensitivity and, in the case of power circuits, to also reduce distribution
impedances, parasitic ringing and associated EMI.
STG recognizes that the circuit elements you don’t see on the schematic are often just as critical as the ones you do.
Advanced Thermal Management
Successful power board design requires integration and consideration of thermal system design, as well as careful
control of power interconnects. STG has experience in high-current PC board layout for power stage circuits. We
routinely work with heavyweight copper to design boards that operate in excess of 100 amps.
Using conventional thermal management and heat sink technologies, along with innovative, high-conductivity
substrates, STG engineers highly reliable boards that are optimized for manufacturability.
